If you don’t want to pay the cost for StorNext/Xsan or a clustered file system made for Mac OS and Microsoft Windows, Areca has supported a “Simple SAN function” for user via a high-speed Thunderbolt.

1. Only Port #0 can configure the Simple SAN mode function. You MUST access the CLI command edits through port 0 to control which port has the read/write function.
2. Under Simple Mode, all ports on the 8050T3‐SAN are configured as 1 port only Read/Writes, and the rest ports Read only mode.
3. Update to the newest CLI and firmware from version 1.70.
4. Plug into Port 0, make CLI Changes.
 
(1). Firmware under the Standard SAN mode:

(1-1). Switch to Simple SAN Mode:
CLI> adsys simplesanmode Parameter: <p=<0(Standard)|1(Simple)>>
       Ex: Configure Simple SAN Mode As Simple
       Command: CLI> adsys simplesanmode p=1 [Enter]
(1-2). Restart the ARC-8050T3-SAN unit for the Simple SAN Configuration to take effect.
(1-3) Pick a port to make read/write,
CLI> ssf portcontrol Parameter: <p=xx>
          Ex: Enable Port#0 For Writing.
          Command: CLI> ssf portcontrol p=0 [Enter]
(1-4). Write files,
(1-5). Unmount,
(1-6). Go to Step (1-3).
 
(2). Firmware under the Simple SAN mode:
 
Instructions:
(2-1). Pick a port to make read/write,
CLI> ssf portcontrol Parameter: <p=xx>
          Ex: Enable Port#0 For Writing.
          Command: CLI> ssf portcontrol p=0 [Enter]
(2-2). Write files,
(2-3). Unmount,
(2-4). Go to Step (2-1).
