Q10120608 - When trying to install Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 R2 using the only STORPORT driver I could find for x64 (located at ftp://60.248.88.208/RaidCards/AP_Drivers/Windows/Driver/Win2003/64Bit/Beta/1.20.00.13-storport/ ), Windows BSODs consistently at the beginning of setup (fresh disks and server). I was curious as to if there is any information relating to this issue?

Answer
Areca customer has provided a solution to this issue as below: If the computer BSODs right at the start of a clean Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 R2 installation. As you know, this is essentially SP1 of Windows 2003, so it does contain a slightly updated STORPORT storage driver right out of the box (compared to an RTM Windows 2003 Enterprise installation). After pointing the installation to the floppy to locate the driver, it appears to load it, and then appears to BSOD when it tries to use the disk. The ARC-1110 is in a RAID-5 configuration, built using the "Quick-Start" menu option in the controller bios and initialized in the foreground. When installed Linux on another box (compiling the driver for the latest Red Hat Kernel update) and it worked fine. UPDATE: When had to slipstream this driver into install media (This is the most up-to-date STORPORT storage driver (version 5.2.3790.2723) it can locate at (released 13-Jun-2006) on Microsoft's site): http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=916048 ...and burn a new bootable CD. After doing this, I did not get a BSOD at the start of a clean install. In configuration, it doesn't appear like the ARC-1110 can be installed out of the box with Windows 2003 SP1 or R2 (at least in x64 for sure) using the Storport driver on your FTP site. You have to first slipstream the latest hotfix (above) into the install media and burn a new bootable CD.
